My First 3 Dine Out Vancouver Experiences #DOVF

Dine Out Vancouver has been on for a week now.  Where have you eaten?  Do you have any favourites?

Here are the first 3 Dine Out Vancouver restaurants that I visited over the past week.  I visited:

  • Edible Canada (on Granville Island) $28
  • Jimmy’s Tap House (across from the library downtown) $18
  • Baru Latino (on Alma) $28

I think my favourite was Edible Canada, followed by Jimmy’s Tap House.  Both Edible Canada and Jimmy’s over delivered on the amount of food and flavour for their respective prices.  All the dishes I had at Edible Canada were full of flavour.  I really liked the tuna appetizer and the chai creme brule dessert.  At Jimmy’s the appetizer, a Ban Mi Vietnamese sausage grilled, and the lamb cooked 2 ways (grilled lamb chops and baked lamb) was tender and flavourful.  Baru was good too, but I think the other 2 were slightly better.  I had the paella at Baru.  I liked it but it was very spicy and it did not mention this on the menu.  One of my dining companions for the evening has an adverse reaction to spice so after one bite, he was affected by the paella.  Of note though, I did bring 2 bottles of Argentine wine to Baru; a Malbec and a Cabernet Sauvignon to sip with our meal. I paid the corkage fee of $15 a bottle for the first time.  I didn’t mind paying it as these wines were specialty items not available in the BC Liquor stores.  The very fruity Malbec was a nice pairing with the paella.
